Ame Deal should have been a thriving and happy 23-year-old, and instead, her legacy is one of heartbreak and suffering. Child abuse can take many forms, and the bystander effect may cause us to believe that what happens within another family is ‘not our business’. In reality, it is everyone’s business to call out abuse and contact authorities, whether you are a mandated reporter or not.
Ame was treated differently from her siblings by the entrusted adults in her life, culminating in one of the most disturbing instances of child abuse and murder I’ve ever covered.
