Welcome to Crimeatorium, the place where crime lives. In this series, we examine the trial of Rebecca Ruud, a case that has left many with lingering questions and a sense of unease.
Rebecca Ruud stands accused of killing her own daughter, Savannah Leckie, in Ozark County, Missouri. Savannah was just sixteen, and her life took a tragic turn when she moved from her adoptive home in Minnesota to live with her biological mother in Missouri. This move was prompted by difficulties Savannah experienced in her adoptive home, particularly challenges in getting along with her adoptive mother's fiancé. Tamile Leckie-Montague, Savannah's adoptive mother, asked Ruud to take Savannah in, and Ruud agreed.
This is a bench trial, meaning there’s no jury, (this also means the witnesses don't feel the need to speak loud and clear) only a judge will decide the outcome. A condensed version of the trial will be presented, with some edits for clarity and pacing. The recording of Rebecca Ruud speaking to her attorney had to be heavily edited and some parts sound distorted, but most of it is decipherable and worth listening to.
Watch for the next part on Wednesday morning.
